Football Federation Australia is spending less than half the amount marketing the A-League in this, its sixth season, than it did when the competition started in August 2005. The game’s governing body is investing between $2 million and $2.5m on marketing, media support, advertising and other promotional activity for 2010-11, a season where the on-field standards have probably never been higher but the attendance figures never more disappointing.

David Beckham; honoured by the Sports Personality Lifetime Achievement award: The former English national football team’s skipper David Beckham has been honoured by the Personality Lifetime Achievement Award. The veteran play-maker has played most matches for the English team and is considered one of the legends of the game of football.
The thirty five year old footballer has also played for the prestigious football club, Manchester United and has won six Premier League titles for them. Moreover his presence in the English national squad was also admired and appreciated by football fans from all around the world.

Today the Champions League round of 16 took place in Nyon at UEFA offices. Appealling games ahead with the remake of the last year Champions League final, a(nother) Real-Lyon, and a promising Arsenal-Barcelona. Time to update the Champions League sponsor overview article I published in August.

Last month, Nike announced the final 100 players participating in “The Chance,” a global search for elite amateur players to join the Nike Academy, a high performance program supported by the Premier League in England. According to Arsene Wenger, “The Chance programme gives young players around the world a one of a lifetime opportunity to show their talent, enhance their game and gain valuable insight into the mindset and physical demands of the professional game”.
