Spanish Liga BBVA 2011/12 reflected a cumulative audience of nearly 235 million, representing an increase of over 3.6 million viewers compared to the previous season.

The last round of La Liga reached a net audience of 3.6 million viewers, which represents a market share of 60% for free-to-air and 40% for pay-tv channels.

The match Villarreal v. Atlético Madrid, broadcasted on Sunday prime-time by the free-to-air channel La Sexta, reached an average audience of 2.2 million viewers, while Betis v. Barcelona and Real Madrid v. Mallorca grasped the highest rate on pay-tv with 688,000 and 341,000 spectators respectively.

In addition, the 39th round of the Spanish first division Liga Adelante, which was played during the weekdays following the end of the Liga BBVA, registered one of the highest audience figures of the season with 1,020,000 viewers.

This achievement was also due to the spectators reached through Telemadrid and TVG, two of the largest regional channels, which have broadcasted Liga Adelante for the very first time this season.

Barcelona ‘B’ v. Valladolid, broadcasted on Marca TV, contributed to almost 50% of the total figure with 422,000 viewers, becoming the most watched match of the year for this channel. Deportivo La Coruña v. Las Palmas, offered by both TVG and TVCAN, obtained a considerable aggregate audience of 204,000 TV spectators.
