Hope Solo will join Gatorade’s powerful promotional arsenal after signing a multiyear marketing deal with the beverage company. The Gatorade deal marks the second major endorsement for the standout goalie who helped the U.S. women’s national team finish second in the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Earlier this month, she joined teammates Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan in signing one-year deals with Bank of America.

According to I Sport Connect, more than 700,000 tickets have been sold for the FIFA Women’s World Cup soccer tournament, held in Germany. The tournament, which starts on Sunday and is three weeks in duration, has proven popular with German soccer fans with about half the games expected to attract more than 20,000 fans.

The news underlines the huge strides the women’s game has made in recent years, for the first time ever the FIFA broadcast production will comprise up to 18 cameras for selected matches, including in-goal cameras and two steadycams for all matches.
