What a game today wasn’t it? Who would have believed Chelsea would have scored twice in Camp Nou with 10 men? On that topic, John Terry’s  moronic behaviour was too, unbelievable! Anyways, with Chelsea qualified for the final, Munich will host a 100% adidas final. It hasn’t happened in 5 years!

Following adidas financial figures, Puma also reports Q2 revenue increase. In the quarter, Puma’s consolidated sales of 14.1 percent currency-adjusted and 9.4 percent in Euro terms to €673.5 million ($969 mm) compared to last year, representing Puma’s best ever second quarter sales performance.

Back in October, Puma announced that his CEO Jochen Zeitz had been appointed as Head of PPR unit. He will oversee the PPR sports lifestyle division. Puma was consequently looking for a new CEO. Job’s done as today, Puma appointed Franz Koch as new Puma chief executive officer.

Puma football counts a new member in its portfolio. The Chilean National Team. The famous “Chi Chi Chi! Le Le Le! Viva Chile” will be sung by players wearing Puma kits. Counting already Uruguay among its members, Puma strengthens its presence in South America next to football giants Brasil and Argentina, sponsored respectively by Nike and adidas. Puma launched the Chile kits during the game against Uruguay yesterday.

Interesting changes unfolded today in Puma’s management structure. Puma will represent the main brand of PPR sport and Lifestyle business. Jochen Zeitz, Puma CEO since 1993, will be in charge of building a portfolio of brands around the Puma label. Puma is then looking for a new CEO.

All,
September 21, is the International day of Peace. It is a global event involving millions of people in countries around the world participating in parades, concerts, dance celebrations, exhibitions and educational events in celebration of the United Nations International Day of Peace. This fantastic initiative knocked on the football door, and on September 21, 2009, adidas and Puma played a football game to symbolically bury the hatchet.

Today, second chapter of a sport chronological catch up. Starting in 1979 where the Copa Mundial, the world’s best selling football shoe then, was launched until 1995 where Nike signed CBF (Brazilian Football Federation), and entered significantly the football business. Puma has also a couple of milestones when Heike Drechsler, Jamaican Merlene Ottey, Linford Christie and Colin Jackson all win Gold medals wearing Puma footwear. The game is on!!
