On May 28th 2011, the Champions League final will be held in Wembley. Adidas, The UEFA official matchball supplier released the matchball that will be used for this fantastic football event: The adidas Wembley Finale.
Back in November 2010, UEFA and Radiant Studios came up with the Champions League final visual identity design: “The Lions of London”. The Finale Ball is the “cherry on the cake” or “the chocolate powder on the cappuccino”, as it encapsulates perfectly the design elements of the Lions of London design.
The Finale ball design follows the genuine starball design, which is a logo on its own and a great success story. The 3-stripes put its best technology in this icon in order to deliver a top performance product to both teams.
The design outlines the “Lions of London” and adidas marks, along with the UEFA Champions League trophy. Adidas chose orange to give a strong emphasis on the “Wembley” element, and red for the other design features. The ball is made of thermal bonded panels and is one of the most lightest matchball on the market.
Adidas has been supplying UEFA with all competitions matchballs. A fantastic way to showcase a product at the biggest football clubs competition, and to maximise on a partnership with the european football governing body.
This said, adidas is the UEFA official matchball supplier until 2011/2012 season. On November 2010, UEFA sent an invitation to submit offers (ISO) to all sporting goods companies interested in the rights to supply the official match ball of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup.
