The agreement will see Opta’s services continue on live Sky Sports as well as on skysports.com, Sky Text and Sky Sports apps for mobile and tablet devices.
The Opta data includes detailed match, team and player statistics that are used in sports including football, rugby union, rugby league and cricket. A key area of application is within broadcast graphics and will see Opta’s on the ball X and Y co-ordinates utilised to create player pass graphics and heat maps, as well as detailed penalty data.
