Following last year’s Sport Industry Award winning ‘Ronaldo Tested to the Limit’ campaign, M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment has created a unique online game for client Castrol EDGE and its global ambassador Cristiano Ronaldo, in which 100,000 online fans will be able to challenge the Real Madrid footballer in a real-time event broadcast live on Facebook.
Streamed from a state-of-the-art testing facility in Madrid, Castrol EDGE Presents #RonaldoLIVE is the world’s first interactive football challenge broadcast live on Facebook.
Using a bespoke app housed on the social network – http://www.facebook.com/Cristiano and www.facebook.com/castrolfootball – fans will be able to register for this one-of-a-kind event, before the live action at 4pm today.
In the test, inspired by Ronaldo and Castrol EDGE’s Twitter followers, Ronaldo will face a barrage of footballs fired at him from chutes suspended above which he will have to control and shoot into one of four goals surrounding him, before the next ball is fired.
Of the first 100,000 fans that connect to the Castrol EDGE Presents #RonaldoLIVE Facebook app to watch live on the day, fans will be selected at random to dictate the action, by selecting Ronaldo’s target and choosing the goal that he must shoot into.
All the action will be streamed live on both Castrol EDGE and Ronaldo’s Facebook pages on Thursday 17th May.
For fans that miss out on the live event, a film will be released on Wednesday 23rd May on youtube.com/castroledge and castroledge.com/ronaldo.
The activity is an extension of Castrol EDGE Presents Ronaldo Tested to the Limit, an award-winning documentary created by the agency and Plum Pictures that showed the Portugal and Real Madrid forward demonstrate his strengths in a series of captivating challenges; the most scientific examination of a player ever undertaken.
The documentary was created to bring to life Castrol EDGE’s core brand attribute as Castrol’s strongest engine oil yet and launch the brand across Europe.
Steve Martin, M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment CEO said: ‘It’s getting harder to innovate online as so many of the ideas you see today have been done before. What we’re doing with Castrol EDGE is a true first.’
‘Football fans have never had the chance to interact with a global icon like Cristiano in this way before. We’re committed to pushing creative boundaries for our clients and Castrol EDGE Presents #RonaldoLIVE is a great example of how we do this.’ [Source: Sport Industry]
