Nokia India inked a partnership deal with FC Barcelona today, and became a regional partner of the Catalan club. FC Barcelona is increasing its presence in market with a fast growing economy.
With the increasing popularity of football in India, the deal is viewed as a big opportunity for Barcelona to strengthen their connections in a country that they have identified as ‘strategically important.’
“Today football is gaining significant traction and the youth is following club football with a lot of enthusiasm. We believe that this association will bring fans closer to football and FC Barcelona like never before,” said D. Shivakumar, SVP, Nokia India Middle East and Africa.
“‘Tiki Taka with Nokia Lumia’ campaign is based on FC Barcelona’s famous style of play — ‘Tiki Taka’. However, more than the style of play, the campaign embodies the philosophy of Tiki Taka — sharing, connecting people, being spontaneous and social. This association with Nokia India will create an excellent platform for Indian youth to engage with us, and bring the club closer to its Indian fans,” he said, adding that football has emerged as the second most popular sport in India”. As part of this agreement, Nokia India have started a new campaign. The campaign is titled ‘Tiki Taka with Nokia Lumia’. The main aim of this campaign is increase Indians’ interest in football in genral and FC Barcelona in particular. 11 lucky winners will get the opportunity to travel to Barcelona, meet the players and also watch a game at their 100,000 capacity stadium, Camp Nou.
