AS Roma announced their 2013-2014 season Away kit that will be made in house. A strategic move before their deal with Nike starts for season 2014-2015.
In March 2013 when Nike announced their partnership with AS Roma starting on season 2014-2015. I pointed out some kits solutions AS Roma could look into for season 2013-2014. What were my suggestions?:
1- Partner with a Chinese manufacturer such as Li Ning
2- A one year deal with an Italian kit manufacturer (Macron, Errea, Lotto…)
3- AS Roma to produce their own kit
My credibiity as a football marketer just got boosted as one of my suggestion came to life! Anyways, AS Roma will produce their 2013-2014 kits IN HOUSE.
Indeed, AS Roma has unveiled its new away uniform for the 2013/14 season during the team’s tour of North America. The Giallorossi will wear it for this evening’s friendly against Toronto FC and again on Saturday August 10, against Chelsea in Washington D.C.
The new white jersey is a clear throwback to the Roma uniforms of the 1980s yet bears the same features as the rest of the 2013/14 collection: a UNIQUE jersey with no technical sponsor, produced exclusively by the club.
Another distinguishing feature of the new away kit, like this year’s home uniform, is the inclusion of a serial number and a message printed on the inside of the collar: “Solo per questa maglia… Unico Grande Amore” [Only for this jersey… One Great Love]. The club’s year of foundation, 1927, appears on the back in Roman numerals while the red, white and green of the Italian flag inside the collar is a reminder that this is a 100% Italian production.
AS Roma commercial director Christoph Winterling commented: “We’re thrilled to be able to offer our fans another jersey that reflects the club’s history and recalls the uniforms worn in the eighties, which was a period of success for Roma and culminated in our second Scudetto triumph in 1982/83.”
