Juventus star Paul Pogba is set to land a massive £31million sponsorship deal with adidas. The French international is set to sign an endorsement deal with the 3-stripes after being at the centre of a bidding war between adidas and archrival Nike.
Pogba has risen to become the No.1 prospect in European football after leaving winning three successive Serie A titles, while also becoming a mainstay in Didier Deschamps’ France side. The deal represents a blow to Nike, as Pogba would have been a fantastic addition to their players’ portfolio.
Although Pogba has stayed without a boot deal in recent years, he has largely worn Nike boots – including various customisations, many of which have been designed by himself with the company.
Against Manchester City earlier this season, the Frenchman wore specially-adapted boots featuring Le Tricolore, as a personal tribute to victims of the Paris attacks.
Yet in recent months the midfielder has frequently chopped between wearing boots from both companies – increasingly favouring adidas post-Christmas.
Now, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pogba is set to become the poster boy for adidas’ ACE 16 PureControl, the company’s new laceless boots, also worn by Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil and Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic.
The players’ endorsement “war” between the two sports brands giants is ongoing, and Pogba was a steal for any brand. This said, history shows that players easily make the switch as Özil recently did.
