Bundesliga Adopts Revenue Distribution Key for 2013- 2017

Hi everyone,bundesliga-logo
In a meeting held in Frankfurt am Main, the German League Association unanimously agreed to a new distribution key for the league’s centralised marketing revenues for the 2013/14 to 2016/17 seasons.

Hence, all clubs in the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga will benefit from an increase in their revenues. Sport performance and solidarity remain the main principles of distribution for all the centralised marketing revenues.

These criteria also apply for the allocation of resources between the two top divisions themselves as illustrated by the case of the distribution of domestic media rights, with the 2.Bundesliga obtaining a 20 per cent of the total amount, a clearly higher sum compare to its actual market value. In addition, it is worth highlighting that the sum allocated itself to the 2.Bundesliga has increased significantly in absolute terms, compare to the previous cycle.

Within the Bundesliga clubs, the criteria for the distribution of revenues will be determined by a 2:1 ratio between the top-ranked and the bottom-ranked teams in an ad hoc distribution ranking.

This means that the revenue sharing distribution will range from a maximum of 5.8 per cent of the total amount for the first place team to at least 2.9 per cent for 18th place team.

To establish this income distribution ranking the final league standings from the last four seasons as well as the current league campaign will be taken into account. For the 2.Bundesliga, the payment ratio sharing will goes from 2.25 per cent for the team in the 1st place to 1 per cent for the 18th.

On the other hand, the Bundesliga’s international media rights income distribution remains based on both international and domestic sport performance.

For that, it is taking into account both the respective points obtained by the clubs for the UEFA five-year coefficient rankings as well as their performance at the Bundesliga.

Finally, the flat-rate shared with the 2.Bundesliga from those international revenues will be doubled compared to the current cycle. [Source: EPFL]

The German Bundesliga is again at the forefront of financial sustainability while other clubs show incredible debts putting their structure at risks. Another milestone for Bundesliga with this revenue distribution initiative.
